Where Research Points come from
The October GRAVHOUNDS demo awards Research Points through stat milestones, expedition completion and time played. The developer reworked those rewards to provide more RP early and open progression options sooner. If you are looking for a useful starting plan, complete expeditions and review your milestones rather than relying on an unsupported fixed-rate farming loop.
These are the reward sources described in the October 7 devlog. The explanation does not provide a complete payout table or prove which planet produces the most RP per minute.
What changed for the October demo
The official GRAVHOUNDS progression devlog describes three parts of the rework:
- More Research Points at the beginning of progression.
- Ongoing rewards from stat milestones.
- Larger rewards associated with completing expeditions and time played.
The same update fixes milestone tracking for pipeline building and perfect performance. That is relevant when comparing an older recording with the demo: a missing tracked activity in an earlier build is not a reliable statement of the updated reward rules.
The developer's description supports taking part in the mission's systems and finishing runs. It does not establish that idling, repeating one specific action or deliberately failing a mission is the fastest way to progress.
Check the requirement before spending
Research in the ship hub offers equipment and progression choices between expeditions. In narrated player experience, Gohjoe inspects weapon and turret research, while Game Advisor describes spending extracted materials on technology and permanent improvements.
Do not treat every displayed requirement as interchangeable. Research Points are part of progression, but some purchases also need materials. In particular, the October devlog explicitly says Mod upgrades now require Biomass alongside Research Points.
That means an RP balance alone may not be enough for a Mod upgrade. Check the requirement shown for the item you actually want, rather than applying an old playtest cost or assuming that one resource substitutes for another.
Choose a progression goal you can verify
Start with a specific change you want to try: a weapon unlock, a different turret branch or an upgrade to a Mod you use. Inspect that option's current requirements, then use the mission and milestone rewards you earn toward it.
This is more dependable than following a numerical upgrade order whose costs were taken from another build. The October update changed both the ordering of the Mod tree and upgrade prices, so old figures should keep their original version context.
FAQ
Are Research Points only awarded for finishing a mission?
No. The developer also names stat milestones and time played, alongside expedition-completion rewards.
Can I upgrade Mods using only Research Points?
The October devlog says Mod upgrades also require Biomass. Check the current requirement shown for the particular upgrade.
Is there a confirmed fastest RP farming planet?
The developer’s devlog does not identify one or provide comparable RP-per-minute results. The supported answer is the reward sources, not an invented efficiency ranking.
Should I follow exact costs from an older playtest video?
Use them only as observations from that build. The developer specifically changed upgrade prices and progression for the October demo.
